Chat rules
Last updated: 21 October 2026
Our rooms are small, member-run spaces rather than a public forum. These rules exist so people can say the honest version of how they're doing without being judged, sold to, or shown something that stays with them. They apply to every chat room and to private messages between members.
The quick version
- Be kind. Talk to people, not at them.
- Keep the details light — no graphic descriptions of self-harm or suicide.
- No medical advice, diagnoses or telling people to stop treatment.
- What's said in a room stays in the room. No screenshots, no sharing other members' stories.
- No advertising, selling, recruiting, fundraising or asking people to move to another app.
- If someone may be in danger, point them to urgent help — and tell them to call 999 if it's right now.
If it's urgent, don't wait for a reply
Rooms aren't monitored in an emergency. Call 999 if you're in immediate danger, or Samaritans on 116 123 any time, day or night.
Text SHOUT to 85258 for a free 24/7 text line.
Be kind, be human
People here are having a hard time, or just a tiring one. Insults, mocking, pile-ons and "you're not depressed enough" comparisons hurt and get removed. Disagreement is fine; contempt isn't.
We don't tolerate racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism or any other bigotry, including "just asking questions" versions of it.
Keep the details light
You can say you're struggling — that's the whole point of the rooms. Please don't post graphic detail about self-harm, suicide methods, or specific quantities of tablets, and don't post images of injuries. Those details can be genuinely dangerous for other members, even when you're only describing your own experience. If you need to talk it through, call Samaritans on 116 123 or text SHOUT to 85258.
No medical advice
Sharing what helped you is welcome: "walking before work helped me" is useful. Telling someone what to take, what to stop taking, or what they're "really" dealing with is not. Nobody here can diagnose you, and medication changes without a prescriber can be harmful. Encourage each other to speak to a GP, a pharmacist or NHS 111.
What's said in the room stays in the room
Don't screenshot messages, quote members elsewhere, or post someone's story to social media — even to ask for help about them. Don't share another member's name, workplace, photo, address or anything that identifies them. If something said in a room worries you, report it instead of taking it public.
No selling, recruiting or collecting money
No advertising, promotion of a service, crypto or investment pitches, MLM recruiting, survey spam, or asking for donations and "support" links. No moving conversations to WhatsApp, Telegram, DMs or dating apps, and no asking members for money, photos or favours. If you're a therapist or service, use the contact form — not the rooms.
Keep it appropriate
No sexual content or flirtation in the rooms. This is an adults-only space (18+), and it isn't a dating service. Don't impersonate anyone, don't run multiple accounts to dodge a limit or a ban, and don't post other people's personal information.
No spam or flooding
One message at a time — if you have more to say, write it as one message. Repeated posting, copy-paste walls of text, and messages designed to wind people up get removed. There's also a technical limit of five messages a minute in a room, so the conversation stays readable for everyone.
If someone might be in danger
You don't have to handle it alone, and you shouldn't try to. If a member says they might hurt themselves, or you think they're not safe:
- Encourage them to call 999 if it could be happening now.
- Point them to Samaritans on 116 123 (free, open 24/7) or to text SHOUT to 85258.
- Report the message so a moderator can see it. Don't try to investigate or keep someone safe on your own.

Reporting and moderation
Every message has a report button. Reporting shares that one message with our moderators, who decide whether it breaks these rules. You don't need to argue your case — a short reason is enough.
Moderators can remove messages, stop someone posting in a particular room, and block an email address from the contact and booking forms. Serious or repeated breaches can mean losing the account. We keep a record of moderation decisions so the process stays accountable.
Rooms aren't a crisis service
The rooms are run by members, not staff. Nobody is watching them around the clock, and a message can sit unread for hours. If you're in immediate danger, call 999 — don't post here and wait.
Questions or a decision you disagree with?
Tell us through the contact form and a moderator will look at it. We'd rather talk it through than have you quietly lose faith in the place.
Ready when you are
Every room is free to join once you have an account. Have a look round and pick the one that fits today.
